Abi & Monroe {Nashville Dog Photographer}

Sometimes I can't believe how fast time flies! I recently dove into my session archives, and reminisced on this fun pet photography session from a few years ago with Abi and Monroe!

I first had the opportunity to take their portraits back in 2014, but in this second session we took photos to promote her amazing work as a pet portrait painter -- and how Monroe is her little helper every step of the way!

When she adopted Monroe, she used her hobby with art to start capturing his many shades of personality. She says, "His portrait snowballed into a demand from all of my fellow pet lover friends. And now I am putting my work out here publicly."

Since then, she's done some amazing pet portraits of our own pets -- all of the ones that have left us, plus our current bunch, and we plan to have her add one of any new additions to the furry family in the future!

Abi is also married now to a great guy named Craig, and they've even adopted a second adorable dog named May Belle. If you're interested in having her paint your pet portraits, head on over to her Facebook page and reach out to her!

Maranda, Adam & Reba {Nashville Pet Photographer}

Today you'll get a chance to see some familiar faces: Maranda, Adam & Reba! We met up at Ellington Agricultural Center for a springtime pets and their people mini session.

It's always so fun to work with them! If you haven't seen my previous posts from their sessions, head on over to our 2016 session at Harlinsdale Farm and Downtown Franklin.

Reba is also an adorable 9-year old red-head named after the famous Reba McEntire, which I just love! Most everyone has guessed she's a pit/daschund mix, which is a pretty interesting pairing ;)

Maranda says she is "literally the best dog" - easygoing, doesn't bark 99.9% of the time, and gets along with all people and other dogs. I've also witnessed first-hand her kangaroo skills; she can jump so high! Reba is also full of snuggles, loves to sleep in and is the best embodiment of unconditional love, ever.

Reba is a rescue from a no-kill shelter in Western TN, through a Petsmart adoption day in Nashville several years ago. She's super lucky to have such a wonderful forever home!

Enjoy some of my favorite previews below! :)

Why You Should Include Your Pet in Your Family Portraits

Getting your family’s photo taken  is a momentous occasion. It’s a chance to get together and create more memories to look back on as the years go by.

While you’re making sweet memories, doesn’t it make sense to include every member of the family? Before getting snapped by the camera, don’t forget about the pets!

Pets make your family complete and are sure to make the photo complete too. Here’s why you should include your pet in your family portraits.

Your Pet is a Member of the Family

First and foremost, your pet is just as much a part of the family as you are! You brought them into your lives, and they’re involved in every other aspect of your day to day lives, so why not include them in your family photo?

No matter how many kids, fur babies or members there are in your family, everyone deserves to make an appearance in the family portrait. Imagine taking the photo and looking back, wondering why Fido wasn’t in the picture — it just wouldn’t be the same!

Lightens Up the Mood

Pets exude joy and have a playfulness about them that’s hard to ignore. No matter what type of pet you have,  animals bring a lighthearted energy to the photoshoot which is ideal if you’re feeling nervous.

With everything that’s involved with family photos — the coordinating, people managing, and making sure everyone looks nice — getting photos taken can sometimes be stressful. Bringing your pet along for the fun can change the whole mood and turn nervous energy into relief and relaxation.

Puts a Smile on Everyone’s Faces

Think about all of the family photos you’ve received over the years. While we love to see the people in our lives posing happily with their families, it’s safe to say we all smile when we see a pet make an appearance in the photo too.

We’re all fond of our furry friends which is why we love to see others showing off their pet in fun ways.

Something to Remember Them By

Just like with any photo, you want to be able to capture a moment and freeze it in time. You want to be able to look back fondly at the time period when this family photo was taken and think about the sweet memories that were made. Including your pet is just another way to remember them by.

You are a part of their entire life, so it only makes sense that they’re part of yours with a photo you can cherish forever.
